DESPOSSESSION. Arteuparte and Canal Gallery.

Arteuparte and Canal Gallery present a group exhibition with the aim of framing DESPOSSESSION as a revolutionary stance in the context of contemporary art, a renunciation of the traditional market focused on transactional exchange that opens up new forms of collaboration between gallerists and artists, highlighting the increasingly present reality of a model in which both parties embark on the exploration of a conscious response to the market: a declaration of freedom from dependence on traditional structures.

Here, artists not only exhibit their works, but also cede part of the limelight to a new generation of gallery owners who reject hierarchies and commercial limitations. In this new model, the gallery is not simply a showcase for works, but a living space for experimentation and human bonding.

This approach fosters an ecosystem of shared growth where the artist finds his or her identity in his or her own narrative, free from external expectations, and the gallerist redefines his or her role as a cultural driver and not just a mere intermediary. By shedding the old mercantile concept, both strengthen their visibility and presence in the art community, demonstrating that authenticity and collaboration are transformative forces in an art market that demands new ways of understanding art and its relationships.

From Canal Gallery and Arteuparte, we are exposed to this new reality in which it is important to focus on the idea of healthy and authentic relationships between galleries and artists, rethinking the role of the gallery owner as an active and creative collaborator, even as an artist in his own right.

And not only, in this particular case it exposes the reality of these two artist-run galleries, Balu and Paul know and have experienced the profound transformation that occurs between artist and gallerist when the roles intertwine, resulting in a more equal and often more creative collaboration. When an artist adopts the role of gallerist, a unique perspective emerges that understands the process of creation from within, allowing for a more focused approach to the authenticity and purpose of the work.

This hybrid role dissolves the traditional barriers of the marketplace, as the artist not only creates but also participates in the process of presenting, connecting and disseminating both their work and that of the artists they represent with a vision closer to the reality of the artist as creator, to the reality of the gallerist as artist, and to the reality of the viewer as consumer, to the reality of the viewer as a consumer of art without hierarchy, generating a space where the notions of ownership and belonging are diluted, allowing both parties to shed conventional commercial constraints and give rise to relationships based on trust, mutual respect and co-creation.

A group exhibition in which the artists Jazzy Dope, Aneoa, Bertmann, Udatxo, Paul Lataburu and Balu form part of both galleries in parallel to give visibility and promote their work.

The idea of ‘not belonging’ in this relationship is liberating, as it allows the artist and the gallerist to transcend the reciprocal dependence on the market in search of a more human growth that is less conditioned by external demands. In this kind of healthy bond, both the artist and the gallerist become agents of change who drive a joint narrative and position themselves in the same direction, not as opposites but as collaborators who mutually enrich each other in a process of constant learning and creation. This dynamic approaches the construction of a solid artistic community, where both roles find new meanings and the freedom to redefine themselves in each exhibition.
