LAS CINCO ESTACIONES
Las Cinco Estaciones is an artistic project that fuses the painting of Cherra Ortega and the literature of Virginia Mas, to reveal the picto-stories that beat hidden in the Madrid Metro.
Cherra Ortega has condensed in her paintings the murmur of subway photograms of her trips in the Metro under the concept of the Fifth Station, a multiverse where the stations fade away, a space alien to the solstices and equinoxes.
The Metro becomes an interchangeable non-place, where travelers pass through in anonymity. They read, listen to music, play instruments, beg for alms… They share snippets of their accelerated existence underground, which will be trapped between Cherra Ortega’s pigments before escaping to the outside. Virginia Mas will be in charge of narrating this kaleidoscope of subway images, through her writings and her recorded voice.
Brushstrokes and words share the surprise of traveling together in the same carriage, sliding between the past and the future, as they strive to capture the intrahistories that float in the amniotic fluid of the Metro.
Las Cinco Estaciones pays tribute to the extraordinary capacity of art to fix and preserve the fragments that make up the collective memory.
