ART for the DANA

Tönnheim Gallery presents the group exhibition ART for DANA. It celebrates this charitable event with the aim of raising funds for the victims of the DANA that hit the province of Valencia. Twelve artists, both national and international with a deep connection to Spain have donated works in the hope that they will be sold to benefit the cause ‘Bringing bookshops back to life’ promoted by the Valencia Booksellers Guild. All possible profits from the event will go to the guild’s cause, which aims to help rebuild the eleven affected bookshops in the area. The proceeds will be donated in full to the affected professionals. So please join us for this important event on Saturday 30 November from 11:00-14:00h. Some of the artists who are part of this exhibition will be with us and drinks and tapas will be served.

– As a Spanish resident and human being it is difficult not to feel devastated and deeply moved by the terrible situation and all the suffering experienced and that the people affected in the province of Valencia will have to continue to endure. Sometimes it is difficult to understand how delicate our lives and civilisation are in the face of nature and its phenomena, and it is easy to feel powerless in many situations. I still don’t know if we will really manage to change the reality a little bit with this solidarity exhibition but at least we want to try with the hope that visitors, collectors and everyone who wants to join this cause will open their minds and hearts by connecting with the situation, and decide to give their support through the purchase of the fantastic works on display. Contributing a purchase will support the ‘Bringing Bookshops Back to Life’ initiative while the purchaser will enjoy their artwork for life, viewing the piece and forever remembering their important and necessary contribution to those most affected in this time of need. Enduring this feeling beyond the long, painful and expensive aftermath of this natural disaster. By Mattias Tönnheim, Director of Tönnheim Gallery.

The impact of the DANA on the province of Valencia in 2024
Significant flooding has affected several municipalities around the city of Valencia, causing damage to people’s homes, businesses and infrastructure. Roads, bridges and public transport have been severely affected or completely destroyed by the passage of the DANA (Isolated High Level Depression), which has claimed at least 220 lives and left thousands injured, with people still missing. Except for the great human suffering which is not quantifiable, the material damage could amount to billions of euros with reconstruction efforts underway. Such as infrastructure repair, emergency response and losses in the agricultural sector, among many others. Authorities are continuing search and rescue efforts, still assessing the actual extent of the damage.
