Mi cama era un océano, un cielo, un bosque y la noche. Mikha-ez

Mi cama era un océano, un cielo, un bosque y la noche. An exhibition of MIKHA-EZ with 57 org. From September the 16th to 29 2021.

57 org presents Mi cama era un océano, un cielo, un bosque y la noche, a solo exhibition of Mikha-ez (Gijón, 1991), which investigates the relationships between childhood and bed games. Based on the testimonies and memories of forty people, these contributions make up a collective exercise and collaborative practice.

The exposition’s title originates from the art piece of Michel Foucault, who in Des espaces autres. Héeterotopies reflects about the role of the bed during the first years of life as a kind of threshold that, activated through fantasy, takes us to another world:

“Children are perfectly familiar with those counter spaces, those localized utopias […] It is about that big bed where the ocean is discovered because one can swim in between the sheets. Since you can jump on it, the bed makes you feel in the air; is the forest that you hide can yourself in, is the night because it is then when one becomes a ghost between the sheets, is the pleasure, and lastly because once the parents are back one will be punished”.

Mi cama era un océano, un cielo, un bosque y la noche returns to those childhood experiences in bed as a playful space. It collects the personal stories of boys and girls that are now grown-ups, and that they now play by remembering that space that was once the bed: an untamed territory where all dreams were possible, where imagination came to life.
