Masao Yamamoto (Gamagori, Japan 1957) is internationally known for his poetic approach and ability to transform the ordinary into something ethereal. His work is a meditation on memory, existence and the passage of time, using techniques that make each piece seem like an antique or a fragment of personal history.

For the first time, Masao Yamamoto presents in exhibition a collection of unique pieces of ambrotypes, an ancient photographic technique that uses glass plates. Entitled “Tomosu”, which means “to light up” in Japanese, this series offers an introspective and spiritual look, revealing intimate details through a medium that requires a manual and highly reflective process. Accompanying these abrotypes are works from other series in his career.

“Tomosu” highlights not only the continued innovation of Yamamoto’s career but also his mastery in capturing the ephemeral beauty of the natural and human world.
